Here are a few simple tips to help your move go as smoothly as possible.

1. Pack an Essentials Box

Set aside a box or bag with the items you'll need right away, including:

  • Medications
  • Phone chargers
  • Toiletries
  • A change of clothes
  • Snacks and bottled water
  • Basic cleaning supplies
  • Important documents

You'll thank yourself later when you don't have to search through dozens of boxes.

2. Label Every Box

Clearly label each box with the room it belongs in and a brief description of what's inside.

For example:

  • Kitchen – Dishes
  • Primary Bedroom – Bedding
  • Bathroom – Towels

This makes unloading much faster and helps movers place boxes in the correct rooms.

3. Transfer Utilities

Before moving day, make sure you've scheduled the transfer or activation of:

  • Electricity
  • Water
  • Internet
  • Gas (if applicable)
  • Trash and recycling service

There's nothing worse than arriving at your new home without power or Wi-Fi!

4. Do One Final Walkthrough

Before leaving your old home, check every room, closet, cabinet, garage, attic, and storage area to make sure nothing gets left behind.

5. Change Your Address

Remember to update your address with:

  • The U.S. Postal Service
  • Your bank and credit card companies
  • Employer
  • Insurance providers
  • Driver's license (if required)
  • Subscription services and online shopping accounts

6. Celebrate Your New Beginning

Once the boxes are inside, take a moment to enjoy what you've accomplished. Whether it's ordering pizza on the living room floor, sharing a toast with family, or simply relaxing after a busy day, you've reached an exciting milestone.

Your new house is officially becoming your home.
